We’ve already gone over the importance of authors having a website, the things it needs to include and several ways to help your author website stand out. So in this post we’re going to cover the humble, Buy Now button and how it can boost your book sales. This little addition is the catalyst for turning website visitors into book buyers.

To Boost Book Sales it Needs to Be Easy to Buy

When a visitor comes to your author website they may be looking for a lot of things. They may want to know more about you. They may want to look for your upcoming events. Or they could be searching for your blog. They may also be going directly to your Book page to find your latest book, or all of them! In order to boost book sales, you need to make it as easy as possible to buy your book. And what’s easier than clicking a button?

Keep in mind not all Buy Now buttons actually say, BUY NOW. They can simply be buttons with the bookstores name. But you also need a lead up in your web copy to make it even clearer and to entice them more.

Buy Now Buttons Compel Clicks

A Buy Now button is like a prompt to your website visitors. These types of prompts are called a CTA, or Call to Action. They tell the reader what to do. Once they are sufficiently enticed by your stellar website, your awesome book descriptions and your compelling bio they are ready to take action. They want to buy your book! And they need to be able to do that with a click of a button. Having an actual Buy Now button lets your website visitors know that they can do just that with a simple click or two. You don’t want to leave them wondering or searching, or going off page to find your book. As soon as they think, “Oh, I want to read this!”, that Buy Now button needs to be there waiting for them.

Having Several Options Can Help Boost Book Sales

One of the many things we always recommend to clients is giving your website visitors an option. In other words, you need more than one way to purchase your book. As easy as Amazon is, not everyone wants to use that option. Giving them options to buy directly from their local bookstore is a great way to boost book sales. You don’t want them to hesitate because you only have one option.

We love supporting local bookstores and many other readers do too! So if you have a favorite local bookstore, add a link to them as a buying option. Other popular sources for book buyers are Barnes and Noble, or Bookshop. These are known and trusted places to buy books and an alternative to Amazon that will ship them pretty quickly as well. Options are a good thing!

Where Does the Buy Now Button Go?

We’d like to note, as we mentioned above, that not all Buy Now buttons use the words “Buy Now”, and also that they’re not only on your website’s Book page. If you are hoping to boost your book sales as much as possible you’ll have links back(or backlinks) to your Book page on other pages.

For instance, on your About Me page, your content can include the fact that you wrote a book. You can place a backlink within the book title that leads the user back to your book page. You can also use those CTAs we mentioned to drive visitors to your book page where they will find your book description and of course your Buy Now buttons.

Here’s an example of using a backlink to bring visitors to your Book page and Buy Now Buttons.

However you and your website designer choose to add your Buy Now buttons to boost book sales, the important thing is that they’re there. And that they also include a CTA and links to your book page on your other pages. After all, a big reason for having an author website is to sell your book!
