There are a few occasions when you may want a book cover redesign. Since your book cover is its biggest marketing tool, getting it right is important. But sometimes things happen. Even if there’s nothing wrong with your book cover design, there are times when you may want a do-over.

New Book Cover Design for New Editions

If you’re releasing a new editions of a previously published book you’ll likely want to give it a sparkly new, updated cover. Usually it’s been awhile between the original and a new addition, so your old cover may seem dated. Plus, you’ll want it to be obvious this is a new, updated, and even better version  of your book.

An Upgrade for Re-Releases

Occasionally there’s a situation where for whatever reason—low sales, bad timing—your book would benefit from a re-release. And this makes for a great chance to upgrade your book cover! Perhaps you never really loved the original, or it just wasn’t done well and you want to give your book another chance at success. All these are a perfect excuse for a book cover design do-over!

A Series Update

If you’re an author of a series, you’ve probably had some time between books. By the time you’re finishing the last book of your series you may not be in love with your original covers anymore. Or enough time has passed that trends have changed quite a bit. This is a chance to update your book cover design for all your books, not only so that they’re consistent, but so you fall in love with them again.

Getting Your Perfect Book Cover Design

These are just some of the reasons a new cover design may be in order. But often, self-published/Indie authors are new to the whole experience and a bit lost. That’s how bad book covers can happen. Whether you decided to design the cover yourself, or you went with a design team that just didn’t quite get it right, it’s not set in stone. You can redesign your book cover any time, really!

Of course this means finding the right designers and taking the time and energy to go through the process of having your book reprinted. But hey, it’s a fun reason for a re-release party!

Whatever your reason for wanting a book cover design do-over, you likely won’t regret it. When you put all that effort into writing, publishing and marketing your book, you should also end up with a book cover you love.
