Diane Uke in the Gallery

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

We are very pleased to announce a new art opening featuring the mixed-media work of local artist Diane Uke.

Diane Uke Art

Biography:

Diane Uke is a Del Mar-based artist who has had a lifelong passion for art. She grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and spent the summers of her youth in Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon where she developed her love for painting amidst the natural beauty of the red rocks. She received her B.S.B.A. from the University of Arizona and relocated to San Diego in 1975. There, Diane worked as a C.P.A. for Price Waterhouse & Co., and in private industry for several years. She retired in 1989 to devote more time to art and cultivating her own unique style.

Diane has studied art extensively through numerous classes and workshops under the tutelage of such artists as Gerald Brommer, Calvin Fortbrook, and Elaine Harvey. Her work has been shown in several galleries and is held in private and corporate collections across the nation.

Her work is currently being exhibited at Del Mar Art Center Gallery and Monkey C Media.

Artist Statement:

Most art I create hones in on an object from our everyday surroundings. The subjects of my work include nature, cityscapes, and industrial scenes, represented through photographs that I incorporate into my work. I layer these iconographic images with such media as acrylics, ink and paper in order to build surfaces to support them. Rich and complex textures are developed through this process, as are colors and patterns. Further, I incorporate linear elements that create geometric shapes and abstract planes to lend composition and structure to each piece.

In this spirit, I interplay the organic element of nature with the linear and structural symbols of man and the mechanized world. My work deals with the conflict between our fragile environment and the inevitability of modernization and progress. I aim to show that the right blend of both can create balance and beauty.

In the Gallery: Brian Raszka’s “Rooted”

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Please join us in the Monkey C Media Gallery for our current art exhibit featuring the work of Brian Raszka. The show, Rooted, is a mixture of mediums: most of the work is in acrylic but there are a couple in alkyds and oil. The work focuses on man’s ongoing struggle to understand life and his relationship with nature. Plus man’s impact on the environment and a bit of mythology thrown in for good measure.

See you soon!

Secrets … to be unveiled at the Summer Walkabout

Monday, July 12th, 2010

This Saturday we are pleased to announce our latest art opening with artist Lindy Ivey: Secrets.  She’s rad.  The show starts at 6 and will go until 10 p.m. As per usual, it’s gonna be fun – Fat Molly’s 100% delicious brownies, beer, wine, and live music by Trio Gadjo.   The show is in conjunction with the South Park Walkabout (which, by the way, is always fun for the whole family).  Oh yeah!

Voices 4 … Local Authors & Music

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Voices 4…An Evening of Music and Word is brought to you by Monkey C Media Gallery and The Grove Bookstore.  Participating authors (who will read from their recently released books and sign copies for sale) are, Jeanne Peterson and her novel Falling to Heaven, Michelle Candland and her inspirational book Common Threads: How Women Weave Tribulation into Triumph, and U.S. Navy Chaplain and Commander Sheri Snively with her photographic collection of essays, Heaven in the Midst of Hell. In addition, musician and vocalist, Marie Haddad, will provide music throughout the evening.

This is an exciting event for us.  We work with many talented authors here at Monkey C Monkey and since we have the gallery space, this seemed like the perfect way to support local talent and invite the community in for a nice evening.  The event is free and open to the public.  There will be a wine and food reception following the event.   We also hope to have a presence from Read Local – an incredible organization that supports local authors in the San Diego area.

Voice 4 is a must-attend event with some of San Diego’s finest local talent.  Don’t miss it!
