But there’s more, you need to ensure that your site is web compliant. That is, search engines need to be able to index the content on your site.

One of the biggest mistakes that people make, is placing emphasis on form over function.

One of the biggest mistakes that people make, is placing emphasis on form over function. Many novice web designers will use images instead of text. This ensures that they get the exact look they want, but this could be like shooting yourself in the foot. If your keywords are not searchable by “search engine spiders,” then the chances of your site being discovered through a search browser are slim to none.

What should you do?

Ensure that your site’s content is coded using HTML or XHTML and minimize images that have your keywords in the text.

An optimized site will also load faster; this gives you more time to grab the attention of your potential customer and convert he/she into a customer.
